The Hispanic population in the US, and especially NOLA, is growing. It is more prevalent than ever to have medical practitioners able to communicate in Spanish.
Hispanic cultures vary. The approach to care of each patient should vary too. Medical students should learn culturally competent care to improve the patient-practitioner relationship.
My passion for mentorship has led me to implement a medical spanish curriculum at the Tulane School of Medicine.
I am the founder and director of the Medical Spanish elective couses available at Tulane School of Medicine. Through this opportunity, I am able to help train future physicians in practicing competent care with limited patients of English speaking proficiency.
